The track is easily recognisable as Jack White, even without the vocals the simplicity and raw energy displayed throughout the song suggests it could hold a place in his third band The Dead Weather or even on the final White Stripes album, Icky Thump. But after the build-up, the song ends abruptly and comes to a silent close. When the song finally comes to an end, the whistling, clapping and chanting of men returns alongside a battle-drum that slowly builds up with the wind, suggesting there is impending doom to follow.
However, this time the riff transitions into one of White’s iconic squealing guitar solos, making the instrument express its own pained emotions, building back up to a combination of the heavier drums, clapping, battle cries and the same angered guitar riff heard throughout the song. The simple, yet effective structure of the song remains constant as the clapping, chanting and simple bass drum returns before the riff takes over again, White aggressively attacking the guitar. This is perhaps heavier than some of White’s other solo stuff, but not too dissimilar to his 2014 track ‘High Ball Stepper’, also instrumental and released as the first single to Lazaretto. The band first gained exposure with the release of single 'Its Time', followed by their award-winning debut studio album Night Visions (2012), which resulted. This then comes down to the clapping, the chanting and a simple sequence of bass notes before the heavy drums come back in with a fuzzy guitar riff that sounds as though a battle has begun. Imagine Dragons is an American pop rock band from Las Vegas, Nevada, consisting of lead vocalist Dan Reynolds, lead guitarist Wayne Sermon, bassist Ben McKee, and drummer Daniel Platzman. At the height of their fame and the launch of a new record, Imagine Dragons has shared the scoop on what its like to be in such a successful band. I seriously wish they would write more songs like this. Overall its one of my favorites from Imagine Dragons. The strings fit the songs tone perfectly and Dan Reynolds gives one of his best vocal performances to date. ‘Battle Cry’ opens with a faint whistling sound, building up with the muffled shouting of men alongside a drum-beat designed for battle Alternative rock band Imagine Dragons recently recorded and performed their new song 'Battle Cry' for the soundtrack of the new Transformers film, Transformers 4: Age of Extinction. The only song I want to mention in this category is Battle Cry from Age of Extinction. This is then overshadowed by a distorted guitar ringing out over a heavy drum beat, a clapping sound effect and a group of men chanting ‘Hey!’, appropriate to the title. ‘Battle Cry’ opens with a faint whistling sound, building up with the muffled shouting of men alongside a drum-beat designed for battle. Now, after releasing a collection of acoustic recordings last year, Jack White is back with a heavy and aggressive instrumental piece that is sure to leave fans hoping for a third solo album to be released. White is still on a break from touring and has not released any new material since his 2014 solo album Lazaretto was produced. On April 7 th Jack White and Third Man Records released his latest single online, ‘Battle Cry’.
